World Book Night update

wbn2013Looking forward already to World Book Night 23rd April 2013 – check the list  books to be given out if you would like to read them now. I’ve linked them to the library catalogue for locations or to reserve them (all in stock except the Bernard Sclink and John Wagner, which we’ll order).  The Jeanette Winterston is rated 5* by 9 Leeds Libraries reviewers so that’s a must read.

WBN  are now working with Yodel, who will distribute  20,000 packages of books  for volunteers to collect at 2,000 bookshop and library collection points around the country. WBN has already received 13,000 applications to be a book giver since its launch on BBC1’s “The One Show” on 9th November! They are also working with Crisis, the national charity for homeless people, to run book clubs in temporary centres across London during Crisis at Christmas. A pilot for a weekly book club for Crisis clients happened during the autumn, targeting different reading abilities. Crisis chief executive Leslie Morphy said the development “will be a great opportunity for our guests to enjoy literature alongside the vital services and companionship we offer over the festive period.”
