Just read A Change of Climate by Hilary Mantel and really enjoyed it. I must be one of the few people who started Wolf Hall and didn’t finish it, as I completely lost the thread after reading about 100 pages. From that I decided I didn’t like Hilary Mantel, so nearly didn’t borrow this book.
Really glad I did though. It was first published in 1994 and is a literary family saga covering time in South Africa and Botswana to living in Norfolk. A terrible family tragedy is central to the book but the actual tragedy is not revealed until about three quarters of the way through the book. Very cleverly written covering injustice, bereavement, betrayal and loss of faith all the ingredients of a first rate thriller as well as a family saga.
