‘Full Stop’ Short Story Competition 2013
Closing date: 7th November 2013.
Prizes: Three books from the Teach Yourself® series- ‘getting started in creative writing’, writing a novel and getting it published! For more information about the books go to www.teachyourself.com. One winner will receive all three books, and two further winners will each receive one free entry to our Open Short Story Competition 2014.

Write a short story using a theme of ‘FULL STOP’ e.g. the finality of a situation, a lack of movement, or simply the end – period. No more than 2,000 words.

The Red Line (rolling competition)
Closing Date: Every two months.

Mardibooks  –The theme is First World War Centenary                                                                                                                          Closing Date: 29th November 2013                                                                                                                                                            Prizes: The writers of the best stories submitted will have the opportunity to become a mardiwriter and have their pieces published in an e-book anthology sold on Amazon entitled ‘The Clock Struck War’. All entries must relate in some way to the idea of war or peace. Successful submissions will be original ideas, well devised, with an interesting story and developed characterisation. Stories need to show an interesting use of language and considered and appropriate structural devices. International Aeon Award
Closing date: the competition runs in four rounds, before a final, overall judging on 30th November annually.

Commonwealth Writers Short Story
Closing date: 30th November, 2013.
Prizes: £1 ,000 for winner from each region; £5,000 for overall winner
Entry fee: None stated.
Original, unpublished short stories, 2,000-5,000 words, by writers from Commonwealth countries in Africa, Asia, Canada and Europe, the Caribbean and Pacific.

Writers’ Village Short Fiction Contest 2013
Closing date: 30th November 2013.
Prizes: £1000 is on offer for short fiction in the Writers’ Village International Short Fiction Award 2013. The second prize is £250 plus five runner up prizes of £50. A further five Highly Commended entrants will receive a free entry in the next round. All contestants gain a helpful critique of their story. Winners will be awarded the title ‘Winner,  the Writers’ Village International Short Fiction Award 2013′ and see their work showcased online.
Entry fee: £15 and multiple entries are permitted.
Any genre of prose fiction to 3000 words, except playscripts and poetry. Entries are welcomed world-wide.

Words for Women Prose competition 2013
Closing date: 30th November, 2013.
Prizes: First prize is £600. The winning entry and a number of other successful entries will feature in the first Words And Women anthology, published in conjunction with Unthank Books.
Entry fee: £10.
Any woman writer living in the East of England, ie. Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and  over the age of 16  can enter.
Entries can be short prose, either fiction, memoir, life-writing or creative non-fiction &  any theme, up to 3,000 words.

Fish Prize for Short Stories
Closing date: 30th November, 2013.
Prizes: First – €3,000 – (€1,000 of which is for travel expenses to the launch of the Anthology); Second – a week at the Anam Cara Writers’ & Artists’ Retreat in West Cork’s Beara Peninsula, and €300 travel expenses; Third – €300. The ten published authors will each receive five copies of the Anthology and will be invited to read at the launch during the West Cork Literary Festival in July.
