American Pastoral

American pastoral

A film adaptation of Philip Roth’s political drama American Pastoral, which won the Pulitzer prize, will be made in 2015 by fim maker Phillip Noyce (Rabbit Proof-Fence, The Quiet American and Salt).

Ewan McGregor will play the lead role of Seymour “Swede” Levov, a former high-school athlete who marries a former beauty queen. His perfect all-American existence is thrown into chaos when his daughter is accused of a deadly act of political terrorism during the Vietnam war. The 1997 novel looks at  the US social and political turmoil of the mid- to late 1960s.

Previously adapted Philip Roth novels are The Human Stain, Goodbye Columbus, Portnoy’s Complaint and The Dying Animal (called Elegy as a film)
