What do we do in our Digital Day?

This is a fascinating report – Ofcom’s annual communications market report, – about our Digital Day 2014.

The average adult in the UK spends over half of their waking hours engaged in media or communications activities. On average, UK adults sleep for 8 hours 21  minutes in a 24-hour period, while they spend 8 hours 41 minutes engaged in media or communication activity.

Reading is still one of the UK’s most popular leisure activities.

The average UK adult owns  86 books.The largest collections are held by the 55-64 age group, with an average of 118 books, while the smallest were those of 16-24-year-olds, with an average of 50 books each. We reckon these book lovers will go to the library to borrow books and eBooks for free too.

EBook collections were much smaller across the board, with average UK adults owning 19 eBooks. The largest number  are held by 45-54 year olds, who had an average of 22, while 16-24-year-olds had the smallest, at just 12.

UK adults spend an average of 20 minutes a day reading printed or electronic books, compared to an hour spent browsing websites and using computers, and almost three hours watching television.
