Perhaps a paranormal romance by New York bestselling novelist Nalini Singh ‘Shield of Winter’ – Sorry those are sounding a bit The new collected short storiescold and wintry.

There’s Cassia Leo’s ‘Black Box’, ‘not just a love story’ another bestseller over in the States. ‘River of Stars’ is set in the era of China’s Song dynasty and is by Guy Gavriel Kay (Under Heaven was an international bestseller about the Tang dynasty)

This one’s about dysfunctional families – definitely one for over Xmas – “Accidents of Marriage” by R S Meyers or try this thriller ‘And She Was’ by Alison Gaylin about the disappearance of a child.

Or sheer escapism Jeffery Archer’s ‘The New Collected Short Stories’
